Kids Need To Sell Fundraising Products

My general rule about buying things from kids of any age, is if theyare doing the selling, and doing it well, I always buy. It does notmatter if I want or need what they are selling, I buy. Part of it isbecause I remember selling candy to pay my way to camp when I wasyoung, as well as other fundraisers throughout the years before Iturned eighteen. Here is part two of my general rule about buyingthings from kids. If it is a parent asking me to purchase something, Isay no. I used to work in an office, and one parent would always bringin the sign up sheets to order things. Sorry, I never ordered. I orderwhen kids do the work, not when parents do it for them. Sure, Iunderstand that parents want to help their kids, but I really don’tthink you are teaching what needs to be taught if you don’t have thekids do the work. Are you going to stop and buy lemonade from a parentsitting on the corner? No. But when I drive by a corner with kids outthere in the hot sun selling Kool Aid or lemonade, I stop. I rememberthis last summer driving by a stand because I was in a hurry to make ameeting, and feeling guilty I didn’t stop. Two hours later, when Ireturned, the kids were still out there in the blazing hot sun. Istopped for a glass.
